Coastliners to perform at Liberation

by Judy Benson

Lakewood, Ohio-Liberation United Church of Christ and the Coastliners ensemble of the North Coast Men's Chorus will pair up to provide a night of entertainment that would be a winner in anyone's social calendar.

Last spring, a packed house enjoyed a presentation by this elite group as well as the hospitality of the Liberation UCC community.

"Spring into Life" will be the theme for this year's event and is the perfect follow up to the North Coast Men's Chorus concert a

few weeks ago. The chorus always creates an appetite for innovative and inspiring as well as gay-affirming performance. Enjoy a sweet finish to this musical feast by taking in the Coastliners.

Speaking of appetites, plan on staying for hors d'oeuvres and conversation. This might be a good opportunity to learn more about Liberation UCC.

Liberation is a spiritual community that has always been at the front in the work for LGBT concerns and causes while being a friendly, supportive neighbor in the local community. Liberation invites you to an

evening of fun, food and learning more about a church that may meet your needs and be the perfect companion on your spiritual journey.

Mark your calendar for April 25 at 7 pm, the "Spring into Life" concert followed by a hors d'oeuvres at Liberation UCC, 13714 Madison Ave., in Lakewood. For more information, call 216-521-5556 or e-mail libucc@aol.com. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. The doors open at 6:15 pm.

impact that AIDS has had on the art world.

Six years ago, CIA student Tony Bowden learned that an artist whom he admired had passed away from AIDS. Realizing how many leading artists are lost each year to HIV, he felt compelled to act. Along with Howard Lake, a longtime volunteer with the AIDS Taskforce, Bowden created the first Art Cares in 2003, calling on artists to donate work to help in the fight against AIDS in greater Cleveland.

In its inaugural year, 90 CIA students and faculty members donated works of art, and more than 300 people attended the event. Since then, Art Cares has continued to grow, with more student involvement and increased attendance, raising more money each year for the cause.

This year, Art Cares guests will be able to bid on works in a variety of media while enjoying wine and delectable food by Marigold Catering during a reception at the AIDS Taskforce, 3210 Euclid Avenue. The event includes a private reception for VIP guests, a silent auction of works by CIA students, and a live auction of works generously contributed by local and national artists who are professionally established in the art world. Confirmed donors include Hector Vega,
